ACP Members roundtable with Ministry of Civil Aviation on July 24, 2023 at Hotel – The Leela Palace, New Delhi

On July 24th, US – India Aviation Cooperation Program arranged four roundtable sessions which focused on “Shared Best Practices for Future Needs”. The sessions were set up both in person and virtual attendees . The first two sessions were held in parallel. Session IA was moderated by Mr. Jaideep Prasad (Joint Director General, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security) and had presentations from Ms. Gloria Reyes from Transport Security Administration, Ms. Katherine Rawls and Ms. Stephanie Braxton from Federal Aviation Administration that focussed on Aviation And Cyber Security. This Cyber Security session was attended by members of TSA, FAA, BCAS, SD, Pratt & Whitney etc. who contributed to the discussion and shared ideas for consideration to address the existing gaps. Session IB simultaneously focused on Metroplex Redesign and Trajectory based Optimization (TBO). This session was moderated by Mr. Sanjeev Kumar (Chairman, Airport Authority India) and had a presentation from Ms. Almira Ramadani. The attendees consisted of various members from the government and industry such as FAA, DGCA, AAI, MOOG and Boeing. There were many questions asked by the participants to understand the airspace redesign concepts and how they can be applied in the Indian context.

The next two parallel sessions started at 5pm. Session IIA highlighted the topic of aviation sustainability and was moderated by Mr. S.K. Mishra (Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation). Ms. Jean Wolfers-Lawrence from FAA presented on Airport Sustainability and Dr. Prem Lobo from FAA presented on Sustainable Aviation Fuels. Members of  MoCa, FAA, AAI, SD, WPM, P&W, Boeing and others were a part of this interactive session and shared their thoughts and suggestions on future cooperation and shared best practices. Session IIB in parallel focused on Unmanned Aircraft Systems and had presentations from Mr. Michael O’Shea from FAA and Mr. Salil Gupte from Boeing representing WISK. The session was moderated by Dr. Daniel Jacob (FAA) and was attended by members of FAA, DGCA, Boeing, FedEx and MoCa. Several useful suggestions were made by DGCA participants. The UAS/AAM topic was identified as one where a deeper and broader collaboration between USG, GoI and Industry would be beneficial for the rapid growth of the industry.

In summary, the four roundtable sessions went on for 3 hours filled with interactive discussions on the topics and yielded a wide range of ideas and suggestions for future cooperation.
